ning. He obviously loved American jazz and dance music, and numerous comp
ositions of his reflect this. During the depression, Howard gave up playi
ng for a living. He took a job with Capital Airlines and lived in Glevela
nd, Wilmette, Illinois, and Washington D. C.. He and Emma had two childre

Howard married second time to Kay Savage, cooking editor of the Detroit Fr
ee Press. She still lives in their Detroit home.
