In 1906 she moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan with her mother and brother. S
he attended Ann Arbor High School and took some music and art courses at t
he University of Michigan. After her father die she moved back to Baltimo
re, but was often in Michigan.

She started nurses training, but did not complete the course, She work
ed in a dentist's office and learned to work with porcelain in making dent
ures.

In December 1916 she married Frederick and they had three children. She r
aised her family and lived at the same address in Pleasant Ridge, Michig
an for fifty-five years.

She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution and helped organize t
he Ezra Parker Chapter. Ruth served as historian and became interest
ed in genealogy. She attended a number of Hemingway reunions. During h
er last illness she enjoyed participating in the 1975 reunion although s
he was in poor health both mentally and physically.

She was an active and strong willed person most of her life. She dro
ve an automobile when few women did; she owned a hand gun and claimed to h
ave shot an intruder in her home with it; she pursued genealogical resear
ch enough to locate ancestors tombstones in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvan
ia, and Vermont and she was acquainted with a large number of the Hemingw
ay clan.

She maintained her home for about twenty years after her husband died, a
nd finally had to accept increasing amounts of help from her children.

She died in Ypsilanti after breaking a second hip and lingering a short ti
me in the hospital. She died on September 24, 1975 and was cremated. H
er ashes were placed with her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery, Detroit, Michi
gan.
