| Shared Note: - Dryden was born in Dryden, Michigan and lived with his parents there while attending school. He graduated from the Dryden High School in 18. .. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School at the com pletion of a five year course in 1891. He practiced as an eye, ear, and t hroat specialist. He married Sarah and they had one child.
He practiced for two years in Tomahawk, Wisconsin before returning to Mich igan. He had an office in Flint for a short time and then went to Owoss o. In 1898 he was commissioned into the Army and assigned to duty as a su rgeon at Fort Meyer, Virginia. After eighteen months he was assigned to d uty in the Philippine Islands where he served one and a half years and w as given the rank of Major. He established a hospital in the Philippines.
On his way home he completed his circuit of the world.
He had a large clientele with patients coming from several countrie s. He was sympathetic and made many friends including many of his patient s.
He became interested in politics and was elected city alderman four tim es as a Republican. In 1907 he was elected mayor. He was active in negot iations that resulted in a Carnegie Foundation grant for Owosso's Librar y. He belonged to the Shiawassee County Medical Society and was preside nt at the time of his death. He was a 31st degree Mason and was affiliat ed with the Elks, and the Knight of Pythias, and was a member of the Natio nal Geographic Society.
He had been in poor health for three years before he was stricken while wo rking in his office. He was confined to his home for ten days before he d ied. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso, Michigan.
