| Shared Note: - John was born at Hadley, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1873; Ph.B., LLB (University of Iowa) 1875. He was a charter me mber of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at Ann Arbor, Michigan.
He married Natalia and they had five children.
He practiced law at Hampton, Iowa except for a year or so when he was in K ansas City. He attended a centennial celebration at his parents' ho me in Hadley on July 4, 1876 and read an original poem about John and Sara h. The poem that John wrote to his parents at the time of the United Stat es centennial was found in a trunk of family papers in 1980. The trunk h ad been handed down from Sarah to her son, Silas, to his daughter, Mar y, to her son, Darroll, and finally to his children. There was a letter f rom John's wife, Natalia, in the trunk also.
He wrote a letter to his grandfather James dated July 14, 1881 from Hampto n, Iowa. The letter was printed in the Lapeer paper. He was mayor of Hamp ton at one time.
He was interested in fine horses and cattle and had prize winning hors es at the Iowa State Fair as late as 1915. He still played golf when he w as about eighty years old.
John and Natalia attended the 1916 Hemingway reunion at Bullock's in Michi gan.
