y. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1876 with a degr
ee of Medical Doctor, and was listed as a doctor in Des Moines, Iowa.

He married Frances Eastman and they had a daughter; Florence Irene. Th
ey had four sons all of whom died in infancy.

After he stopped practicing medicine he traveled extensively in the weste
rn states. He settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a period where h
is daughter attended high school. John and Frances moved to Des Moines, I
owa where his wife, Frances, died in 1910.

He married a second time to Julia Avery. He was a consulting actuary in D
es Moines, Iowa. He was an Associate of the Actuarial Society of Americ
a, and a fellow of the American Institutes of Actuarys. He went into t
he insurance business and started and insurance company of his own. He w
as on a train traveling for his new company when he died in 1919 in Helen
a, Montana.
